New Restaurant Opens in Clyde

I confess when I heard the name of the new restaurant opening in Clyde, I didn't get it. Now I've eaten there I do - it was a bit of an ah-ha moment. Imagine the freshest of foods prepared in the simplest of ways - it's not just organic is orgasmic!

Without a doubt the eating experience at base_icly exceeds expectations. I fell in love with pizza all over again. The lunch menu had a good selection from starters to salads, pizza, pasta, risotto and deserts and cheeses. We started with garlic bread - as you do - the bread was instantly recognisable as having been baked in-house and had that delicious European density, perfectly balanced with the garlic butter. On Dean's (Managing Director) recommendation I had the crayfish pizza - picking 'seafood' in a restaurant in the heart of Central Otago is never my first choice - but o yum! I will never eat pizza any where else. Greg had the prawn spaghetti - fresh pasta makes a real difference here and again all the flavours were perfectly balanced.

Despite being a brand new building the ambience is just as they say it is: casual but smart. The staff: simply superb. My greatest regret is being to full to order a coffee made by Erica- Jayne or have my all time favourite desert Tiramasu! Gee I'll just have to go back.

As PKay pointed out booking was a good idea so we booked a table of six for Saturday night. I recommend booking yourself in for a marvelous meal at base_icly.
