A Funny ThingA Funny Thing

O a very funny thing happened on the way to the gardens! That is Queenstown Gardens (apparently the duck pond was what inspired Monet...). The funny thing being a number of funny things: a wonderful collection of comedy extracts from Peter Seller to Oscar Wilde with a smattering of Aussie & yes, the odd musical number. Remarkable Theatre strikes again - hurrah. If you haven't cottoned on to the free open air theatre held in the Qtn Gardens you must put it in your diary for next year as a MUST.

The outrageous Steve Wilde (yes, a face for radio but a body of a boy god...) complete with lippy (pink - good choice of colour) was a marvelous 'guide' for the stroll through the gardens. Mercifully, director Kate Blackhurst, had limited the staging areas with clever use of the 'swivel' so you weren't having to traipse too far. Very clever lass, made the most of the pond (3 Men in a Boat) & the Rotunda (4 Weddings & a Funeral).

I love Oscar Wilde & Pygmalion was a brilliant vehicle for the Actors especially Jill Derbie (as Mrs Higgins) & Kathleen Brentwood (as Mrs Eynsford-Hill). It was a tad bit long but who would dare to edit Oscar! Having said that, out of all the extracts it was the one that made me want to see the whole play.

I could go on and mentioned everybody as they were all wonderful. If I could give a prize for the most improved performer it would be to Sam Farr - but then it again that clever girl has a knack for choosing fantastic extracts & casting them well. Clap hands for everyone.

By-the-way choreography was fab.....
